High Prevalence of Osteoporosis and Osteopenia in Adult Neuromuscular Patients: A Prospective Pilot Study in Central Pennsylvania (P3.388)

CONCLUSION; This PILOT study showed a statistically significant high prevalence of osteoporosis and osteopenia in patients with neuromuscular disorders independent of any known long term similar effects of prednisone therapy.such high prevalence was seen in men as well as in women.Large multicentric studies are worth contemplating. This can turn out to be an undiagnosed endemic or even pandemic condition. Plummeted quality of life, pain, and fractures can result from osteoporosis which can be potentially preventable if accurate and holistic diagnoses are made, prompting appropriate measures.
