Primary vaginal adenosarcoma with sarcomatous overgrowth arising in recurrent endometriosis: feasibility of laparoscopic treatment and review of the literature

We report a case of a primary vaginal adenosarcoma with sarcomatous overgrowth in a post-menopausal 58-year-old woman with recurrent endometriosis. During the last five years she underwent several biopsies of a polipoid lesion on the vaginal cuff, last histological examination of the biopsy evidenced adenosarcoma with “sarcomatous overgrowth” in a background of endometriosis. There was no evidence of distant metastatic disease on the diagnostic workup and we performed a laparoscopy to remove the pelvic mass. We reviewed the literatureon the electronic databases Medline, Embase, and Science Direct considering papers published in English in the time interval from 1990 to 2015. Weidentified five articles and in all of them the surgical treatment was performed via a laparotomic approach. The present case is the first one in the literature reporting feasibility of laparoscopic treatment of this kind of pathology with a detailed description of and the surgical technique .
