Cardiac Cancer (CC) that arises from or involves the heart can present as heart failure, chest pain, stroke or another thromboembolic event. Although patients with CC have limited treatment options, in other organ cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma, liver transplant improves 5-year overall survival in carefully selected patients1. For CC, however, the benefit of replacing the cancerous heart is uncertain because one-year survival is generally estimated around 50% after this rare operation.

Authors: Hung LVM, Ngo HT, Van Pham P Abstract The idea of utilizing the human immune system to eradicate tumors has been successfully practiced for the past decades, as reported in multiple published studies. Among cancer types, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is considered the most lethal type, leading to the necessity of finding an effective treatment for this category of cancer. Building on the success of basic and preclinical studies, numerous clinical trials of cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells or chimera antigen receptor (CAR) T cells for NSCLC therapy have been reported. In this review paper, we will s...

CONCLUSIONS: This novel drug might be a useful method to allow doctors to guarantee a better chance for long-term survival in recurrent, metastatic HCC patients with previous LT. However, it should be used with caution in allograft recipients due to the risk of acute graft rejection, further larger, prospective studies are needed to determine optimal immunomodulatory therapy to achieve optimal anti-tumor efficacy with transplant liver preservation. Abstract OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for the development of severe dry eye syndrome (DES) in patients with ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGVHD). DESIGN: Retrospective Chart Review. PARTICIPANTS: Patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at the British Columbia Cancer Agency between 2011 and 2013. METHODS: A retrospective chart review of post-transplant patients with oGVHD DES followed at the British Columbia Cancer Agency Bone Marrow Transplant Unit was performed. Patient and donor data were collected. Descriptive and inferential sta...

This study provides direct evidence for the contribution of gut microbiota to the cognitive decline during normal aging and suggests that restoring microbiota homeostasis in the elderly may improve cognitive function. On Nutraceutical Senolytics Nutraceuticals are compounds derived from foods, usually plants. In principle one can find useful therapies in the natural world, taking the approach of identifying interesting molecules and refining them to a greater potency than naturally occurs in order to produce a usefully large therape...

Conclusion: Although 211At-Psyche-B showed low serum stability in vitro, tumor uptake was confirmed and accumulation increased over time in vivo. Thus, this study suggested that our pre-targeting strategy of low-immunogenic CEA scFv-Cupid and 211At labeled Psyche might work for advanced cancer treatment. Abstract INTRODUCTION: A pandemic coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, causes COVID-19, a potentially life-threatening respiratory disease. Patients with cancer may have compromised immunity due to their malignancy and/or treatment, and may be at elevated risk of severe COVID-19. Community transmission of COVID-19 could overwhelm health care services, compromising delivery of cancer care. This interim consensus guidance provides advice for clinicians managing patients with cancer during the pandemic. MAIN RECOMMENDATIONS: During the COVID-19 pandemic: In patients with cancer with fever and/or respiratory symptoms, consid...

In this study, we found that older nematodes have higher ROS levels. Interestingly, after hydrogen treatment, the ROS levels were significantly decreased, and hydrogen could significantly extend the lifespans of the N2, sod-3 and sod-5 mutant strains, by approximately 22.7%, 9.5%, and 8.7%, respectively. In addition, aging is regulated by a variety of pathways, such as the insulin signaling pathway, the rapamycin target signaling pathway, and the caloric restriction pathway. However, our results showed that the lifespans of the daf-2 and daf-16 strains, in which these pathways are upregulated, were not affected afte...
