The two neighbouring countries — sharing a 2,400 kms long and porous border — have been bracketed as the stumbling block in the way of the global polio eradication drive. These militancy-riddled countries have been tackling Taliban’s opposition to the administration of oral polio vaccine (OPV) to children.Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), one of Pakistan’s four provinces along with the adjacent Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and the adjoining Nangarhar province of Afghanistan has been declared a polio-endemic geographical block by the World Health Organisation.Since January 2016, “we have started synchronised immunisation campaigns in KP, Fata and Afghanistan with a view to ensure vaccination of all children on both sides of the border”, KP’s health minister Shahram Tarakai told IPS.“There are about 100,000 children who refuse vaccination on both sides of the border. They pose a threat to the polio eradication campaign. ConclusionMRI-guided focused ultrasound systems exist that can, in principle, deliver the ultrasound protocol we successfully tested here. In addition, MRI, as the clinical gold standard, can readily identify MS lesions. Given the relatively low intensity values of our ultrasound protocol – close to FDA limits – we anticipate that future success with this approach to MS therapy as tested using more realistic MS mouse models may one day translate to clinical trials that help address this devastating disease.

More generally, the findings are of relevance when considering implementation of integrated control strategies for intestinal parasites.
We present the case of an individual who disobeyed animal health legislation and crossed animal quarantine boundaries and two state lines with a cattle tick (Rhipicephalus australis) infested horse. Following recognition of the infestation by animal health officers, the individual asserted that the infestation had occurred either during transport or upon arrival at the site of discovery, and that they had not contravened quarantine legislation. Utilizing ticks as forensic indicators, knowledge of the life cycle and minimum age of ticks on the infested horse indicated that the individual ’s assertions were false, and ...
