Objectives: The study goal was to concurrently evaluate agreement of a 9-point pulmonary ultrasound protocol and portable chest radiograph with chest CT for localization of pathology to the correct lung and also to specific anatomic lobes among a diverse group of intubated patients with acute respiratory failure. Design: Prospective cohort study. Setting: Medical, surgical, and neurologic ICUs at a 670-bed urban teaching hospital. Patients: Intubated adults with acute respiratory failure having chest CT and portable chest radiograph performed within 24 hours of intubation. Interventions: A 9-point pulmonary u...

AbstractObjectivesTo evaluate the performance of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) definition of arthralgias suspicious for progression to RA in patients with hand arthralgias and to estimate the added value of both auto-antibodies and ultrasound (US) with power Doppler (PD).MethodsConsecutive patients admitted for hand arthralgias to “Reuma-check” ® program were included. This program includes the following at baseline: clinical assessment, laboratory tests, US with PD of both hands, and radiography of both hands and feet. All patients were followed-up after baseline evaluation by their treati...

We compared the assessment of active synovitis in knee osteoarthritis (OA) by utilising superb microvascular imaging (SMI) and conventional power Doppler (cPD) techniques, and then correlated each technique with paients' symptoms, radiographic features and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-detected synovitis. A subgroup of participants with symptomatic knee OA underwent dynamic ultrasound assessment for semi-quantitative scores for SMI and cPD in the suprapatellar, medial and lateral parapatellar knee recesses.

Macaulay Amechi Chukwukadibia Onuigbo, Nneoma Agbasi, Bibek Sarki, Sana Khan, Kramer WahlbergIndian Journal of Nephrology 2020 30(1):29-31 Internal jugular vein (IJV) cannulation was originally described by English et al. in 1969 as the safest approach. Carotid artery puncture had an incidence rate of 4–6% before ultrasound guidance. We encountered an unexpected sequence of events following the ultrasound-guided placement of a temporary HD catheter in the left IJV. The postprocedure chest radiograph was misinterpreted as an arterial misplacement, the blood return was correspondingly bright red, and simultaneous ...

ConclusionsGreater severity of structural and inflammatory hand OA pathologies was associated with lower pressure pain thresholds at finger joints, indicating pain sensitization. Our results indicate that pain sensitization might be driven by structural and inflammatory pathology in hand OA.

Conclusion: DeltaIVCD-guided intravenous fluid therapy is valuable in low LVEF patients where tight fluid control is essential and any fluid overload may precipitate cardiac failure.

All the rabbits were randomly divided into four groups: control, open accurate reduction (OR), closed Gotfried negative support reduction (CR-N) and closed Gotfried positive support reduction (CR-P). Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Gotfried positive reduction (GPR) on repair of femoral neck fracture in rabbits and its underlying mechanisms. Male New Zealand white rabbits were employed to establish the model of femoral neck fracture. All the rabbits were randomly divided into four groups: control, open accurate reduction (OR), closed Gotfried negative support reduction (CR-N) and closed Gotfried positive support reduction (CR-P). At the 8th and 12th week after surgery, the anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of their hip joints were taken by X-ray, and local hemodynamics of t...
