AbstractGenetic anomalies are known to affect about 15% of infertile patients with azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia. Despite a throughout diagnostic work-up, in up to the 72% of the male partners of infertile couples, no etiological factor can be found; hence, the cause of infertility remains unclear. Recently, several novel genetic causes of spermatogenic failure (SPGF) have been described. The aim of this review was to collect all the available evidence of SPGF genetics, matching data from in-vitro and animal models with those in human beings to provide a comprehensive and updated overview of the genes capable of af...

I can often hear it coming. One need spend only a few minutes with someone coping with infertility before encountering a cascade of regret. “If only we hadn’t waited so long.” “If only I had frozen my eggs.” “If only we had changed doctors sooner.” “If only I hadn’t believed my OB/GYN when she told me not to worry.” “If only I’d realized earlier that I could do it on my own.” “If only I’d met my husband when I was younger.” And so it goes. Sure, other thoughts and feelings may torment infertile women and men. Sadness, anger, hel...

Conclusionswe suggest that women with infertility may represent a subpopulation of patients with underhanded systemic autoimmune syndromes in which the main symptoms represented are obstetrical complications. We, therefore, recommend evaluating aPLs in all patients undergoing IVF with the aim of recognizing women at a higher risk of miscarriage or pregnancy morbidity.
