CairaAbstractA crystal engineering approach combined with experimental screening methods was employed as a preformulation step for producing expectedly useful forms of a novel antimalarial drug lead (MMV652103). In previous experiments, this drug lead had shown promise both in vitro and in vivo against the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. Various new forms of MMV652103 were produced earlier, including co-crystals, a salt, polymorphs and a hydrated form a...

In conclusion, the aqueous stem extract of B. alnoides possesses antimalarial properties. A single oral dose of 5000 mg/kg body weight had no significant toxic effects on the function and structure of the kidneys and liver. These results support its use in traditional medicine for the treatment of malaria. PMID: 31814839 [PubMed]

The Theranos fiasco (see:The rise and fall of Theranos, the blood-testing startup that went from Silicon Valley darling to facing fraud charges) served to cast a pall over the micro-sample diagnostics market. Now comes news about an Israeli company with a similar strategy but this time with an instrument providing a complete blood count (CBC) and a green light from the FDA (see:Unlike Theranos, startup ’s blood test device ‘delivers on promise’ with FDA nod). Below is an excerpt from the article:Israeli startupSight Diagnostics has received US Food and Drug Administration clearance to market a blood ...

In this study, the complete gene sequence ofSjFrzb2 was obtained by using 3 ′-rapid amplification of cDNA ends technology.SjFrzb2 transcript levels at different stages ofS. japonicum maturation were evaluated by quantitative real-time RT-PCR analysis.SjFrzb2 was expressed at all developmental stages examined and exhibited the highest transcription level in 7-day-old worms, then gradually decreased during the growth and developmental stages to reach the lowest level at 18  days post-infection.SjFrzb2 gene expression was higher in female worms than in male worms and was significantly higher in female worms from a ...

This cycle could be driven extrinsically by host circadian processes, or b...
