ConclusionEndometrial HOXA-10 gene expression in women with endometriosis is significantly down-regulated than in those without endometriosis. Endometriosis patients with infertility have significantly lower levels of endometrial HOXA-10 gene expression than endometriosis without infertility; thus decreased expression of this gene may, directly or indirectly, be related with the endometriosis-associated infertility. Severe endometriosis cases express, in their both endometrium and endometrioma tissues, significantly lower levels of HOXA-10 gene than moderate endometriosis cases.

The world’s first baby born by a uterus transplant from a deceased donor is healthy and nearing her first birthday, according to a new case study published Tuesday in the Lancet. Uterus transplants have become more common in recent years, resulting in 11 live births around the world. But all of the other successful deliveries so far have been made possible by living donors — often women who opt to donate their uterus to a close friend or family member without one. The birth resulting from the case detailed in the Lancet, which took place at Brazil’s Hospital das Clínicas last December, is both the first...

IVF is commonly applied to all indications for infertility, but increasingly unexplained causes predominate (www.sart.org). Specifically, endometriosis is listed as the primary diagnosis in less than 4% of cases in the United States, primarily because laparoscopy is not performed for the basic infertility workup, as it once was (1). Unexplained cases of infertility show a high prevalence of endometriosis (2, 3). Visible endometriosis such as endometriomas present a special challenge, especially since ovarian reserve may be compromised when ovarian surgery is performed.

Endometriosis, particularly ovarian endometriosis, is a disease detrimental to fertility. The exact pathophysiology of endometrioma-related infertility is still a source of debate, however, and a number of mechanisms have been suggested. It has been postulated that it distorts the tubo-ovarian anatomy or induces an inflammatory reaction followed by the so-called burn-out effect, which impacts the follicle reserve (1) and causes oxidative stress (2) resulting in poorer quality oocytes. Indeed, toxic content from an endometrioma may result in local inflammation, elevated oxidative stress levels, increased fibrosis, loss of c...

Authors: Ye F, Cao W, Lin J, Du Y, Lan L, Dong Y, Zhu J, Zhou Q, Pan X, Lu Y, Zeng F, Xia B, Wang L Abstract To compare the clinical outcomes of intrauterine insemination (IUI) with or without ovulation induction (OI), IUI cycles from January 2008 to December 2017 in Zhoushan Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital were included, consisting of 455 natural cycles and 536 OI cycles. The overall clinical pregnancy rate did not differ between the two groups (P> 0.05). Stratified by OI medications such as clomiphene (CC), human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), the pregnancy rates ...

Abstract PURPOSE: To examine the fertility experiences of women reporting and not reporting endometriosis in a population-based survey. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional survey among a community sample of 1543 women in Australia. Data were analysed to compare fertility management between women who did and did not report endometriosis. Factors associated with unintended pregnancy, infertility diagnosis, time to conception and live birth were identified through multivariable analyses. RESULTS: While individual contraceptive use did not differ by endometriosis status, avoiding pregnancy was less impo...

ProblemCytokines have a significant role in the process of embryo implantation, trophoblast growth, and differentiation by modulating the immune and endocrine system. The aim of this study was to investigate the profile of a large set of cytokines in the cervico ‐vaginal washing of women undergoing IVF, to explore the association of these proteins with a good receptive endometrium.Method of studyA cohort of 155 women scheduled for IVF cycle was recruited. All patients were asymptomatic for genitourinary infections and had been screened for chlamydia, mycoplasma, and other bacterial infections. All IVF subjects were treat...

Conclusion: In infertile women, post-open myomectomy adhesions have a high prevalence of 80.2% with high predilection in fallopian tubes and uterus, compared with women without prior abdominopelvic surgery at 20.3%. Cohesive form of adhesion predominates.
