Objective: External validation of the Endometriosis Fertility Index (EFI) in symptomatic patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of moderate and severe endometriosis associated with infertility. We also aimed at evaluating pregnancy rate by ART after surgery.

Objective: The symptoms of intestinal endometriosis are especially severe such as dyschezia. These symptoms negatively effect on the QOL of the women remarkably. Surgeries are considered when medical therapy does not succeed or in the setting of infertility. We evaluated symptoms, surgical procedures, post-operative recurrence and post operative pregnancy rate.

Abstract Endometriosis causes severe chronic pelvic pain and infertility. We have recently reported that niclosamide treatment reduces growth and progression of endometriosis-like lesions and inflammatory signaling (NFĸB and STAT3) in a mouse model. In the present study, we examined further inhibitory mechanisms by which niclosamide affects endometriotic lesions using an endometriotic epithelial cell line, 12Z, and macrophages differentiated from a monocytic THP-1 cell line. Niclosamide dose dependently reduced 12Z viability, reduced STAT3 and NFĸB activity, and increased both cleaved caspase-3 and cleaved PARP....

Conclusion(s)The inhibitory in vitro effect on ESC proliferation and migration of IFN-β1a was much more potent than IFN-α2b. These preliminary data offer the rationale for future preclinical and clinical trials using IFN-β1a as a new tool for the therapy and tertiary prevention in patients with DIE.

Authors: Matalliotaki C, Matalliotakis M, Zervou MI, Trivli A, Matalliotakis I, Mavromatidis G, Spandidos DA, Albertsen HM, Chettier R, Ward K, Goulielmos GN Abstract Endometriosis is an enigmatic condition with an unknown etiology and poorly understood pathogenesis and women with endometriosis represent a high-risk population group for a large category of chronic conditions. The study focused on a 67-year-old woman who presented with a 40-year history of familial endometriosis associated with various non-gynecological co-morbidities, thus representing a unique case from a cohort of 1,000 patients with endometriosi...

Endometriosis is a major cause of infertility and disability for women, caused by the presence of inflammatory endometrial implants in extrauterine locations. Among the constituents involved in the immune response during the development of endometriosis, several chemokines, including interferons (IFNs) may have a role in the pathogenesis of this disease. The aim of this preliminary study was to investigate the anti-proliferative and anti-migratory activities of type I IFNs (IFN- α2b and IFN-β1a) in primary endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) isolated from women with deeply infiltrating endometriosis (DIE).

The extent to which the uterine endometrium contributes to the success of fertility treatments has long been debated. Several uterine conditions have been associated with poor endometrial receptivity and low pregnancy rates (1). Thin endometrium, fibroids, adenomyosis, and endometriosis, for example, can each affect uterine receptivity and limit the ability to conceive. Many of these conditions are commonly seen in the infertile population and many may go undiagnosed. In the absence of obvious defects, the contribution of uterine receptivity to in  vitro fertilization success has been controversial; the uterus and egg...
