If you want to lose weight, you're not alone. Keeping to a healthy weight is particularly important if you have arthritis because of the extra strain it puts on your joints, so we've put together some tips on how to lose weight and how to keep it off.

Balance your meals
Try to eat a low-fat, healthy, nutritious and balanced diet that has the right proportion of foods from the main food groups:
plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables
plenty of starchy carbohydrates
some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein
some milk and dairy foods
just a small amount of the food and drinks that are high in fat and/or sugar.

Starches
Starch is a type of carbohydrate. Carbohydrates are foods which give us energy. Starchy carbohydrates provide a slow and steady release of energy throughout the day.
It’s important to base meals on starchy foods such as:

pasta

cereals
rice.
