Preventing diarrhoea in calves

Virbac has launched Bovigen Scour, an emulsion for injection into cattle to reduce the severity of diarrhoea caused by bovine rotavirus, bovine coronavirus and enteropathogenic Escherichia coli F5 (K99). The company explains that the vaccine works by actively immunising pregnant cows and heifers and providing passive immunity to their calves via colostrum. The vaccine is also licensed to reduce the shedding of virus by calves infected with bovine rotavirus and coronavirus. According to Virbac, a key benefit of Bovigen Scour is the vaccination protocol, which, it says, offers a large window for injection, making vaccination planning easier. The primary course is administered in two shots, with the first dose between 12 and five weeks before calving and the booster three weeks later. The annual booster is then due between 12 and three weeks before calving is expected. The dose per cow is 3 ml and the vaccine...

Baldone, L. Urquiza, P.J. Delicia, M.C. FortAbstractBovines are the primary reservoir of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) O157:H7 and the main source of its transmission to humans. Here, we present a one-year longitudinal study of fecal shedding of E. coli O157. E. coli O157 obtained from recto-anal mucosal samples were characterized by multiplex PCR. The E. coli O157 prevalence ranged from 0.84% in July ...

Although various types of vaccines have been tried to prevent VHSV disease in cultured fishes, there are still no commercial vaccines. Reverse genetics have made it possible to change a certain regions on viral genome in accordance with the requirements of a research. Various types of VHSV mutants have been generated through the reverse genetic method, and m...

A cost-effective, portable and unplugged foam immunochromatographic assay (Foam-ICA) for on-site and quantitative detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7 (E. coli O157:H7) without any instrument was reported. In sample solution the detection target E. coli O157:H7 were captured and labeled by monoclonal antibody modified the gold platinum bimetalli...

Authors: Szuster-Ciesielska A, Wawiórka L, Krokowski D, Grankowski N, Jarosz Ł, Lisiecka U, Tchórzewski M Abstract Malaria remains one the most infectious and destructive protozoan diseases worldwide. Plasmodium falciparum, a protozoan parasite with a complex life cycle and high genetic variability responsible for the difficulties in vaccine development, is implicated in most malaria-related deaths. In the course of study, we prepared a set of antigens based on P-proteins from P. falciparum and determined their immunogenicity in an in vivo assay on a mouse model. The pentameric complex P0-(P1-P2)2 wa...
