Ischemic Stroke in Children and Young Adults With Congenital Heart Disease Congenital Heart Disease

Conclusions The risk of developing ischemic stroke was almost 11 times higher in young patients with CHD than in the general population, although absolute risk is low. Cardiovascular comorbidities were strongly associated with the development of ischemic stroke in young CHD patients.

Authors: Gök G, Cinar T, Duman D, Nurkelam Z Abstract Introduction: Rheumatic heart disease predisposes to structural changes in the mitral valve including commissural fusion and calcification with subsequent narrowing of the mitral valve orifice resulting in rheumatic mitral stenosis (RMS). To define the best therapeutic strategy, an accurate measurement of mitral valve area (MVA) for RMS is of paramount importance. The propose of the present study was to assess the agreement between the mitral navigation method (MVN) and three-dimensional (3D) planimetry in the assessment of MVA in patients with RMS.Methods:...

Authors: Dehghani MR, Shariati A, Haghjou A, Izadi S, Sattartabar B, Rezaei Y Abstract BACKGROUND: Several factors and risk stratification tools have been studied to determine the prognosis of acute coronary syndrome. Fragmented QRS (fQRS) is a marker of myocardial scar and its prognostic role has recently been demonstrated. The present study aimed to investigate the association between the presence of fQRS in electrocardiogram and the prognosis of ST-segment elevation and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI and NSTEMI). METHODS: A total of 661 patients with myocardial infarction (MI...

AbstractPurposeCompared with open thoracotomy, minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) methods, such as transhiatal or thoracoscopic esophagectomy, likely have lower morbidity. However, the relationship between intraoperative fluid management and postoperative complications after MIE remains unclear. Thus, we investigated the association of cumulative intraoperative fluid balance and postoperative complications in patients undergoing MIE.MethodsThis single-center retrospective cohort study examined patients undergoing thoracoscopic esophagectomy for esophageal cancer in the prone position. Postoperative complications includ...

Conclusion: In Mexico, only 5 out of 10 patients with STEMI have access to reperfusion therapy. Pharmacoinvasive strategy is takes advantage of the accessibility of fibrinolysis and the effectiveness of PCI. The present research protocol aims to provide information that serves as a link between information derived from controlled clinical trials and records derived from real world experience. Conclusion: Congenital heart disease in the State of Jalisco is an important cause of mortality, with a high incidence and a very limited resolution capacity since the health services in the State of Jalisco for the care of these patients are insufficient and inadequate. It is essential to strengthen the health system for the care for these patients. PMID: 32459213 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

alván-Ramírez M Abstract Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy is characterized by the presence of structural and functional cardiac alterations in patients suffering from hepatic cirrhosis, without previously known cardiac causes that may explain it. Clinically, it is characterized by the presence of variable grades of diastolic and systolic dysfunction, alterations in the electric conductance (elongation of corrected QT interval) and inadequate chronotropic response. This pathology has been related to substandard response in the management of patients with portal hypertension and poor outcome after transplant. ...

Conclusions: Transcatheter closure of paravalvular leaks is a feasible and safe procedure with high rates of technical, echocardiographic and clinical success in the short and medium term. It is an adequate therapeutic alternative, mainly in high surgical risk patients and multiples comorbidities. PMID: 32459208 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Salas-Pacheco JL Abstract Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and sudden death (SD) continues to be a global public health problem, although the true incidence is unknown, it is estimated that they are responsible for 30% of cardiac origin mortality and may represent 20% of total mortality in adults. Unfortunately, the majority of cases occur in the general population, at the out-of-hospital level, in homes and in people who were not known to have heart disease. Although the majority of SCD victims are considered to be of cardiac origin and more frequent ischemic, it is not possible to rule out other causes only with the...
