Relationship between socioeconomic status and accessibility for endoscopic resection among gastric cancer patients: using National Health Insurance Cohort in Korea: poverty and endoscopic resection

Conclusion In conclusion, we suggest that although universal health insurance in Korea has covered EMR treatment since August 2011, patients from the lowest income group are less likely to receive this treatment. Thus, we need to detect more eligible early-stage gastric cancer and treatment for individuals of low socioeconomic status.

We report 2 elderly female patients with LPE who developed squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Both underwent laparoscopic ischemic gastric preconditioning followed 2 weeks later by 3-field esophagectomy. Final pathological stages were carcinoma-in-situ and pT3N2, respectively. No adjuvant therapy was given. The patient with in-situ cancer has no evidence of recurrence at 24 months. The 2nd patient opted to follow up locally and died 8 months later. LPE should be closely monitored for malignant degeneration. Esophagectomy should be considered when malignancy is detected.

Conclusion MTDH is pro-oncogenic factor playing multifaceted and diverse roles in cancer progression. Its association and central role in regulating signaling pathways such a MAPK, wnt/β-catenin, PI3K/AkT, NF-κβ pathways in various cancers shows that it plays a vital role in metastasis. MTDH contribution to chemo and radiotherapy resistance provides a new direction for the development of anticancer therapeutics. Multiple mechanisms converge to promote expression of MTDH in cancers. Further studies are therefore warranted to determine whether the elevated MTDH expression has prognostic value for development...

In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic benefit of combining the TAB004 antibody with Liposomal-MSA-IL-2 in immune competent and human MUC1 transgenic (MUC1.Tg) mouse models of PDA and investigated the associated immune responses. Treatment with TAB004 + Lip-MSA-IL-2 resulted in significantly improved survival and slower tumor growth compared to controls in MUC1.Tg mice bearing an orthotopic PDA.MUC1 tumor. Similarly, in the spontaneous model of PDA that expresses human MUC1, the combination treatment stalled the progression of pancreatic intraepithelial pre-neoplastic (PanIN) lesion to adenocarcinoma. Treatment with t...

In this study, the immunohistochemistry results demonstrated that DEPDC1 was high-expressed in breast cancer tissues compared with the paired adjacent normal breast tissues, and its tendency at protein level was consistent with mRNA level from TCGA data. Moreover, DEPDC1 mRNA level revealed the strongest association with poor prognosis and development in breast cancer. In vitro assays showed that DEPDC1 overexpression resulted in significant promotion of proliferation by regulating cell cycle in MCF-7 cells, whilst an opposite effect was found in the MDA-MB-231 cells with DEPDC1 deletion. Notably, further investigation ind...

ConclusionConflicting evidences and lacking data about the benefits in terms of overall survival, disease-free survival and the long-term outcomes related to prophylactic bilateral mastectomy for CDH1 mutation carriers restrict the instruction for this type of procedure to selected cases, which should always be managed by a multidisciplinary team.

AbstractOverexpression of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein in association withHER2 gene amplification is found in 7 –34% of gastric cancers. In breast cancer, HER2 overexpression is a prognostic factor in advanced cases and is associated with tumor progression in ductal carcinoma in situ. However, the biological and clinical significance of HER2 status in early gastric cancer is unknown. Here, we aimed to exami ne the correlation betweenHER2 gene amplification and tumor progression in early gastric cancer. The HER2 status was evaluated in 149 lesions from 141 consecutive patients with early gas...

Here, we found that tumor size and weight in gp130F/F mouse stomach at condition were significantly reduced compared to those of at SPF condition. To investigate the underlying mechanism and how host genes were regulated in the presence/absence of microbe, arrays were performed in stomach tissue from gp130F/F and WT at 4 week old at SPF and GF conditions. The onset of ...

ConclusionEsophageal and gastric cardia precursors are heterogeneous. Male gender, advanced age, family history of upper gastrointestinal cancer, and multifocal dysplasia are significant independent predictors for progression, and Bch/mD, MD, and SD constitute three distinctive entities regarding the risk of cancer.
