Authors: de Montalembert M, Tshilolo L, Allali S Abstract As more children are appropriately being diagnosed, the burden of sickle cell disease is increasing greatly in Africa and in high-resource countries such as the United States and Europe. Early management is mandatory, but newborn screening is not implemented everywhere. Point-of-care testing devices are increasingly being used in low-resource countries, showing good sensitivity and specificity. Because the diagnosis is often traumatic for the families, the announcement should be made by an experienced person. The development of care networks is urgently requ...

Authors: Montenegro-Idrogo JJ, Vargas-Gonzales R, Sihuincha M Abstract The clinical signs of malaria in HIV patients may vary depending on the immunological status of the patient. Nationally, evidence regarding co-infection is scarce. This research describes four cases from a hospital in Iquitos, Peru, of patients diagnosed with HIV infection and a positive blood test for malaria. Two of these patients had Plasmodium falciparum infection, and two had Plasmodium vivax infection. One of the patients was in the AIDS stage with poor adherence to combination antiretroviral therapy (cART), and the other three were in the...

Conclusion: Identity between samples and phylogenetic tree revealed that there is an extensive diversity range among isolates. Fifty percent of the isolates were under the risk of complicated malaria. Two of these patients (10%) needed special care and recovery was obtained after getting hospital services. Conclusion: The mosquito collected and mapped can be considered for transmission of malaria and filariasis in the region. Bearing in mind the results of niche modeling for vector species, more studies on vectorial capacity and resistance status to different insecticides of these species are recommended.
