Evidence-based approach to the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa, based on the European guidelines for hidradenitis suppurativa.

Evidence-based approach to the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa, based on the European guidelines for hidradenitis suppurativa. Rev Endocr Metab Disord. 2016 Feb 1; Authors: Gulliver W, Zouboulis CC, Prens E, Jemec GB, Tzellos T Abstract Hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by painful, recurrent nodules and abscesses that rupture and lead to sinus tracts and scarring. To date, an evidence-based therapeutic approach has not been the standard of care and this is likely due to the lack of evidence based treatment guidelines. The purpose of this study was to promote a holistic evidence-based approach which implemented Level of Evidence and Strength of Recommendation for the treatment of HS. Based upon the European Dermatology Forumguidelines for the management of HS, evidence-based approach was explored for the treatment of HS. The diagnosis of HS should be made by a dermatologist or other healthcare professional with expert knowledge in HS. All patients should be offered adjuvant therapy as needed (pain management, weight loss, tobacco cessation, treatment of super infections, and application of appropriate dressings). The treating physician should be familiar with disease severity scores, especially Hurley staging, physician global assessment and others. The routine use of patient'reported outcomesincluding DLQI, itch and pain assessment (Visual Analogue Scale) is strongly recomme...

ConclusionsPillar suture combined with tonsillectomy may reduce postoperative bleeding incidence despite increasing pillar edema in pediatric tonsillectomy. Postoperative pain-relief, palatal hematoma, palatal discomfort sensation, site infection, and velopharyngeal insufficiency were not significantly altered compared to tonsillectomy alone. However, further studies are needed to corroborate the results of this study.ResumoIntroduçãoDiversas técnicas cirúrgicas têm sido utilizadas na tonsilectomia no intuito de reduzir complicações.ObjetivosAvaliar os efeitos da sutura dos p...

ConclusionsCMR is a key tool for diagnosing LDAC. Characteristic findings are subepicardial fatty infiltration and midwall-subepicardial late gadolinium enhancement. The prognosis of this population is poor with a high incidence of sudden cardiac death and ventricular arrhythmias.

Publication date: Available online 25 January 2020Source: Anaesthesia &Intensive Care MedicineAuthor(s): Peter Carachi, Glyn WilliamsAbstractAcute pain management in the neonatal period remains a challenge for the clinician. Responses to pain and analgesic intervention are developmentally influenced and cannot be directly extrapolated from the older child. Successful and safe intervention will minimize acute physiological and behavioural distress, reduce pain scores and potentially improve short- and long-term outcomes. This requires an understanding of the physiology and pharmacology in this age group alongside a mult...

Conclusion: It may be employed either alone or in combination with cryotherapy, existing chemotherapy, bypass surgery or radiations to achieve the optimal results in these patients. Nevertheless, there is a need to formulate a uniform dose and procedure to achieve homogeneity and develop references for clinical practices. PMID: 31977258 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Haese N, Powers J, Streblow DN Abstract Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection in humans is rarely fatal but is often associated with chronic joint and muscle pain. Chronic CHIKV disease is highly debilitating and is associated with viral persistence. To date, there are no approved vaccines or therapeutics to prevent or treat CHIKV infections once they are established. Current palliative treatments aim to reduce joint inflammation and pain associated with acute and chronic CHIKV disease. Development of novel therapeutics that reduces viral loads should positively impact virus inflammatory disease and improve ...

Authors: Aoun F, Malek E, Kazan D, Albisinni S, Peltier A, Bollens R, Roumeguère T Abstract INTRODUCTION: Thoracolumbar dysfunction (TLD) had been evoked as a possible etiology of chronic testicular pain. Our study investigated the efficacy of osteopathic diagnosis and treatment of TLD in men with chronic testicular pain. METHODS: Patients suffering from testicular pain were examined for thoracolumbar dysfunction and enrolled in a prospective trial if they have both conditions. Following standardized examination, all patients were prescribed 1 to 3 osteopathic treatment sessions, usually at weekly interv...

CONCLUSIONS: Powerlifters with and without LBP show similar functional impairments and patho-anatomical findings. However, powerlifters' LBP seems associated with pain during movement and loading of the lumbar spine. The association and causation between specific functional impairments, patho-anatomical findings and LBP in powerlifters has to be further investigated in studies including more participants.
