Existing data sets from healthy coral reefs, degraded coral reefs, and reefs with long-term data sets will be used to ask an what combination of species, species traits, ecological properties, and physical conditions are associated with reef oases, what conditions favor broad scale ecosystem recovery of reefs that are oases. Specific tasks include acquiring, evaluating, and publishing biological, physical, chemical and geographical data from USGS and other sources, developing an analytical framework supported by multivariate statistics, structural equation models, and a generalized mixed-effects model, performing literature searches, and preparing manuscripts.
