Childhood cancer survivors face increased risk of metabolic syndrome

(Mary Ann Liebert, Inc./Genetic Engineering News) A new study of metabolic health risk factors in childhood cancer survivors showed increased risk for modifiable factors such as hypertension and overweight/obesity. These factors have been linked to the effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy and are key contributors to the metabolic syndrome, which increases a patient's risk for cardiovascular disease, as described in an article in Journal of Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology (JAYAO).
