The rapid induction of carbapenem-resistance in an Aeromonas dhakensis blood isolate.

The rapid induction of carbapenem-resistance in an Aeromonas dhakensis blood isolate. Jpn J Infect Dis. 2016 Jan 8; Authors: Murata M, Morinaga Y, Akamatsu N, Matsuda J, Uno N, Kosai K, Hasegawa H, Okada M, Moriuchi H, Yanagihara K Abstract Meropenem-susceptible and -resistant Aeromonas dhakensis isolates from blood cultures of a fatal case with septicemia was analyzed. The two isolates were homologous and the gene expression of metallo-β-lactamase of the resistant strain was upregulated. Physicians should pay attention to the possibility of the induction of carbapenem-resistance after the use of carbapenems in the treatment of Aeromonas infections.
