Swallowing Training Combined with Game-Based Biofeedback in Post-Stroke Dysphagia

For patients with dysphagia due to stroke, in addition to compensatory strategies, exercises are utilized to help improve motor function. Biofeedback is utilized in neuromuscular training, and is promising for swallowing training.

Myiasis is a disease caused by the invasion of tissues by the larvae of flies. Herein, we present 2 cases of this disease. Case 1: a 47-year-old male patient with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, malnutrition, and mental disorders was hospitalized for sequelae of stroke. The intraoral examination revealed poor hygiene and the presence of an ulcerated lesion with a whitish border in the left upper lip mucosa showing larvae with wriggling movement. Case 2: an 11-year-old male patient diagnosed with cerebral palsy and West syndrome.

A 51-year-old white female patient hospitalized in the intensive care unit because of acute ischemic stroke who needed tracheostomy and vasoactive drugs in high dosage evolved with aspiration pneumonia and septic shock. At 30 days of hospitalization, intraoral examination revealed multiple superficial ulcers on the lips, buccal mucosa, tongue, and mouth floor, circumscribed by erythematous halo and covered by pseudomembrane with severe pain symptomatology and evolution of 15 days. Concomitantly, the patient presented bilateral conjunctivitis with erythema in the sclera and periocular region.

This study shows that CA are released from periventricular and subpial regions to the cerebrospinal fluid and are present in the cervical lymph nodes, into which cerebrospinal fluid drains through the meningeal lymphatic system. This study focused on cognitive motor learning in relation to hand function of stroke survivors. MATERIAL AND METHODS We enrolled 30 subjects with cognitive and hand function disorders. The participants in each group were inpatients at a hospital in Korea and had undergone neurorehabilitation training (60 min).
