The effect of mechanical vibration on orthodontically induced root resorption.

CONCLUSION:   There was a trend toward decreased root resorption with different LFMVs (5 Hz, 10 Hz, and 20 Hz); however, it was not more statistically significant than the orthodontic-spring-only group. PMID: 26741305 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractSummaryLumbar spine volumetric bone mineral density (BMD) measured using quantitative computed tomography (QCT) can discriminate between postmenopausal women with low areal BMD with and without vertebral fractures. QCT provides a 3D measure of BMD, excludes the vertebral posterior elements and accounts for bone size. This knowledge could contribute to effective treatment targeting of patients with low BMD.IntroductionWe evaluated the ability of lumbar spine bone mineral apparent density (BMAD), trabecular bone score (TBS) and volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD) to discriminate between postmenopausal women with l...

ConclusionLaparoscopic cholecystostomy was effective in this obese patient with acute cholecystitis and NASH cirrhosis. Using a low-carbohydrate diet with exercise, her weight decreased, and subsequent open cholecystectomy was uneventful.

We report a case of a diagnostic dilemma in a patient with pulmonary melioidosis which radiologically mirrored a bronchogenic carcinoma with mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Such findings were observed in a Computed Tomography (CT) scan (Thorax) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan (Body) in a previously healthy 57-year-old man with no significant medical risk factors for melioidosis other than his previous exposures to soil during outfield military training in Thailand, 37 and 28 years ago. He presented with acute symptoms of dry cough, pleuritic pain and fever. A CT Scan thorax revealed a left lower lobe mass with lef...

ConclusionsThe XP-endo Finisher instrument promoted better distribution of irrigant throughout the root canal system, especially in the apical canal segment, when compared to PUI. However, the tested approaches did not differ as to the ability to drive irrigants into the isthmus area.Clinical relevanceThis study highlighted that the XP-endo Finisher instrument presented a better performance to distribute irrigant throughout the root canal system, especially in the apical canal segment compared to positive pressure irrigation and PUI.

A 58-year-old female patient with cholelithiasis was referred for abdominal ultrasonography in January 2017. The ultrasonography revealed a large left adrenal tumor. The size of the lesion was 65  × 47 mm. High-resolution computed tomography was then performed. It showed a well-circumscribed left adrenal mass (RECIST: 64 mm) with fat stranding. The radiation attenuation coefficient was 27 Hounsfield units. After intravenous administration of contrast media, the tumor showed slight enhan cement to 37 Hounsfield units, resulting from partition reinforcement.

We present the case of an 8-month-old boy with the repeated recurrence of vesicles from the time of birth and who subsequently manifested psychomotor developmental delay. We retrospectively diagnosed the patient with congenital herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. Computed tomography showed multiple calcifications in the periventricular white matter and thalami. The bilateral deep white matter showed an abnormally high signal intensity on T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. The patient required consecutive, suppressive therapy with valacyclovir to prevent the repeated recurrence of vesicles.
