Collagen cross-linking using riboflavin and ultraviolet-a for corneal thinning disorders: an evidence-based analysis.

Collagen cross-linking using riboflavin and ultraviolet-a for corneal thinning disorders: an evidence-based analysis. Ont Health Technol Assess Ser. 2011;11(5):1-89 Authors: Pron G, Ieraci L, Kaulback K, Medical Advisory Secretariat, Health Quality Ontario Abstract OBJECTIVE: The main objectives for this evidence-based analysis were to determine the safety and effectiveness of photochemical corneal collagen cross-linking with riboflavin (vitamin B(2)) and ultraviolet-A radiation, referred to as CXL, for the management of corneal thinning disease conditions. The comparative safety and effectiveness of corneal cross-linking with other minimally invasive treatments such as intrastromal corneal rings was also reviewed. The Medical Advisory Secretariat (MAS) evidence-based analysis was performed to support public financing decisions. SUBJECT OF THE EVIDENCE-BASED ANALYSIS: The primary treatment objective for corneal cross-linking is to increase the strength of the corneal stroma, thereby stabilizing the underlying disease process. At the present time, it is the only procedure that treats the underlying disease condition. The proposed advantages for corneal cross-linking are that the procedure is minimally invasive, safe and effective, and it can potentially delay or defer the need for a corneal transplant. In addition, corneal cross-linking does not adversely affect subsequent surgical approaches, if they are necessary, or interfere with corneal transplants. T...

I tried searching but couldn't find a relevant thread. I was wondering if anyone has experience with a hospital employed job that compensates in "collections minus expenses." How exactly does this work in a hospital setting? The hospital is still getting the facility fee for each clinic visit (hospital clinic)/procedure - so I'm not really clear on what "expenses" are typically attributed to the physician. Can anyone share their pay structure with this kind of system?

The objective of the study is to describe the prognostic factors that would allow maintaining functionality at 12 months.MethodFrom June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2013, all patients older than 69 years with hip fracture due to bone fragility admitted to the Geriatric Acute Unit of our hospital were included. We define as functional maintenance those patients who have lost between 0 and 15 points in the Barthel Index with respect to the previous to the fracture. Prospective study of bivariate data analysis for related and multivariate prognostic factors for predictive predictors.Results271 patients were included, of them, 146 (54....

ConclusionsUnplanned admissions are more frequently related to general anaesthesia, lengthy surgeries and procedures such as arthroscopy, hallux valgus corrections or removal of osteosynthesis material. The major reasons for unplanned admissions were inadequate postoperative pain management for overnight admissions and wound infection for admissions after discharge.

ConclusionIn the presence of an osteolytic lesion with perilesional oedema in the greater tuberosity, the intraosseous expansion of a calcifying tendinopathy should be included in the differential diagnosis. In our cases the arthroscopic treatment was successful.

ConclusionsThe use of cement in OVF with relative indication led to the same clinical benefit in our sample as those with standard indication. A higher number of leakages occurred in the relative indication group with no clinical consequences or adjacent fractures.

CONCLUSION: Metabolic health status and obesity were significantly associated with increased risk of POAG incidence. MUNO subjects but not MHO subjects showed a higher risk of POAG development than did MHNO subjects, suggesting that metabolic status is more important than obesity in POAG. Abstract PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the reporting habits of clinicians who have been exposed to disruptive behaviour in the operating room (OR) and assess their satisfaction with management's responses to this issue. METHODS: Ethics committee approval was obtained. This was a pre-specified sub-study of a larger survey examining disruptive behaviour, which was distributed to OR clinicians in seven countries. Using Likert-style questions, this study ascertained the proportion of disruptive intraoperative behaviour that clinicians reported to management, as well as their degree of sati...
