The caution comes after a woman with cystic fibrosis and lung transplants developed thigh and knee pain after having body art inked on her leg.Doctors say those taking immunosuppressant drugs should take precautions if considering body art. These medicines are often given after an organ transplant or to treat autoimmune conditions such as Crohn ’s disease, lupus or rheumatoid arthrit...

The objective of the study was to assess chosen CV parameters in RA patients who have continuous low disease activity. The study group consisted of 70 RA patients without known CVD and 33 healthy controls, of a comparable age. All RA patients had continued low disease activity (DAS28  ≤ 3.2) from 2 to 7 years. The groups were assessed for: blood pressure, serum amino-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), carotid intima media thickness (cIMT), electrocardiography (ECG), ejection fraction (EJ) and diastolic dysfunction (E/A ratio) in echocardiography. In RA patients in comparison with cont...

AbstractHand problems associated with rheumatoid arthritis lead to subjective impairment, activity limitation, and restrictions on participation. This relation is very complex. Assessment of individuals ’ activities is important to determine how hand problems affect not only body functions but also daily life activities. The aim of this study was to link and allocate items of disability questionnaires with ICF components based on ICF hand core set. The other objective was to examine the relations hip between impairment and ICF components determined on the basis of disability questionnaires in participants with rheuma...

It is estimated that around one quarter of the world's population is infected with tuberculosis (TB).1 Over a lifetime a healthy individual with latent TB has 10-15% chance of developing active TB infection. This risk is greatly increased in those with certain forms of immunosuppression or co-morbidity. For example, it doubles or trebles in those receiving TNF-antagonists for treatment of conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.2 This has led the UK Medicine and Healthcare Regulatory Agency to recommend that all patients in whom treatment with TNF-antagonists is being considered are first screened for latent ...

Chandiramouli The capability of graphdiyne nanotube is valued as drug delivery system in the delivery of commercially known drugs namely, Imuran (Azathioprine), which aids in the cure of Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis, Pentasa (Mesalazine) used to treat Crohn's and other inflammatory diseases, Hyoscyamine (Daturine) is used to control few of the Parkinson's disease symptoms. In the present work, density functional theory calculations are carried out and explored the most deciding parameter ...

Authors: Le Bot A, Jégo P, Donal E, Flécher E, Revest M, Tattevin P Abstract Non-infective endocarditis, also referred to as non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis, represent a wide range of rare pathologies, often severe. This review gathered the data available in the literature, to decipher the major information collected on the pathophysiology, the diagnosis and the treatment of these heterogeneous diseases, often misdiagnosed. Characteristics of non-infective endocarditis are similar to infective endocarditis in terms of valvular lesions (mostly left-sided, with regurgitations and vegetations), and...

In conclusion, the present study indicated that compared with MTX, Biqi capsule plus MTX appeared to have more benefits but that Biqi capsule alone was not better for RA patients than MTX. In the other words, Biqi capsule plus MTX is more effective and has fewer AEs compared to MTX. However, the trials selected in the present meta-analysis have various limitations, including the lack of blinding and the short duration of the treatment; therefore, the conclusions are not sufficiently definitive. More randomized controlled trials are necessary to evaluate the use of Biqi capsule for managing RA. PMID: 29904406 [PubMed]

Abstract A 61-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis on chronic immunosuppression presented with fever. Laboratory studies demonstrated multiorgan failure with pancytopenia, elevation in liver function studies, and an elevated ferritin level, with a diagnosis of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis confirmed on bone marrow biopsy. After initial treatment with chemotherapy, fungal blood cultures grew Histoplasma, prompting initiation of antifungal therapy, which resulted in successful treatment of Histoplasma-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
