Cardiac remodelling identified by cardiovascular magnetic resonance in patients with hepatitis C infection and liver disease

Abstract Chronic cardiac dysfunction in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) in the absence of alcohol consumption or other cardiac disease is well described. Whilst functional and morphological features of this condition remain unclear, diastolic dysfunction has been implicated by echocardiography. We aimed to evaluate myocardial structure, function and tissue composition with cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in patients with hepatitis C and histological evidence of liver disease on biopsy. Contrast-enhanced CMR imaging for morphological, functional and tissue characterization was performed on 16 patients with CLD and 21 healthy controls. Cardiac structure and function was assessed with standard cine imaging, with Late Gadolinium Enhancement (LGE) and myocardial T1 mapping (pre- and post-contrast) performed to evaluate regional and diffuse myocardial fibrosis respectively. Compared to controls, patients with CLD demonstrated lower left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) (138 ± 36 vs. 167 ± 44 mL, p

In the present study, we report that wogonin nanoparticles (Wog np) protect Isoproterenol (ISO) induced Myocardial Infarction (MI) rats. Nanoparticles of sizes less than 200 nm with spherical shape were prepared using Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) respectively as polymer and stabilizer. Male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups. Group 1 as a control group a...

This study investigated the interaction of synthesized immunogenic ‘a’ determinant (aD) region of hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) with PAMAM G4 and anti-HBsAg antibody, as a potential bio-nanogate for anti-HBsAg detection. The aD peptide fused with maltose binding protein (MBP), was confirmed with Western blotting. Nano-Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (nano-DSF) study revealed that the interaction of MBP-aD with anti-HBsAg indicated a higher thermal stability as compared to its interaction with PAMAM G4. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed that a higher binding constant of MBP-aD interacti...

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), sodium alginate (Alg) were adopted as building blocks to form BNH. Calcium ions was used as crosslink agent to construct BNH. The skin injury model of diabetic rats was successfully established, and the prepared hydrogel was applied to the wound. Animal experiments proved that BNH cou...

Min Sun A capillary column coated with nanostructured silver coating was fabricated for gas chromatography. The nanostructured silver coating, about 80–120 nm in thickness, was prepared as the stationary phase via silver mirror reaction, and was characterized by SEM and EDS. The column was evaluated using different types of model analytes, including n-alkanes, n-alcohols, benzenes, and Grob mixture. A baseline separation of ten n-alkanes on the silver column (15 m × 0.20 mm i.d.) was achieved within 3.5 min through the main hydrophobic mechanism. A mixture of six n-alcohols, or another mixture conta...

Abstract OPINION STATEMENT: Liver disease, both in its acute and chronic forms, can be associated with a wide spectrum of neurologic manifestations, both central and peripheral, ranging in severity from subclinical changes to neurocritical conditions. Neurologists are frequently consulted to participate in their management. In this review, we present an overview of management strategies for patients with hepatic disease whose clinical course is complicated by neurologic manifestations. Type A hepatic encephalopathy (HE), which occurs in acute liver failure, is a neurologic emergency, and multiple measures should b...
