Stryker launches 1588 AIM multimodal surgical video platform

Stryker‘s (NYSE:SYK) endoscopy biz said today it launched the 1588 AIM platform surgical video system designed to allow surgeons to differentiate anatomy during minimally invasive surgical procedures. San Jose, Calif.-based Stryker said the video platform integrates 5 imaging modalities for use in visualizing patient anatomy across laparoscopy, arthroscopy, urology, gynecology, otolaryngology and gastrointestinal surgical specialties. “As surgeons, we need to work hard to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients. This new platform allows us to see critical anatomy in real-time, with a simple touch of the button on the camera head,” Dr. Scott Melvin of the Montefiore Medical Center said in a press release. The new platform includes Stryker’s Iris infrared illumination system designed to reduce the risk of ureteral damage, endoscopic near infrared visualization designed to reduce common bile duct injuries, Clarity real-time video enhancement to improve anatomy visualization through enhanced tissue level detail, dynamic range enhancement to improve lighting in the visual field and desaturation to decrease saturation of color in the image. “The reality is that this technology brings a lot to the table.
