Digital Glasses Help Kids With ‘Lazy Eye’

BOSTON (CBS) — If your child is at risk for amblyopia, or ‘lazy eye,’ a condition in which the vision in one eye doesn’t develop normally, there may be an easier way to treat him or her than the standard practice of patching the good eye, which can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. New digital glasses use LCD technology to obscure vision in one eye for programmed periods of time, like a digital patch that flickers on and off. The glasses, called Amblyz, have been approved by the FDA and cost around $450. Studies have shown that it can be as effective as patching.
