Abstract Acupuncture has been increasingly used as an integrative or complementary therapy for pain. It is well-tolerated with little risk of serious adverse effects. Traditional acupuncture and nontraditional techniques, such as electroacupuncture and dry needling, often result in reported pain improvement. Multiple factors may contribute to variability in acupuncture's therapeutic effects, including needling technique, number of needles used, duration of needle retention, acupuncture point specificity, number of treatments, and numerous subjective (psychological) factors. Controlled trials have been published on...

Abstract Juvenile fibromyalgia (JFM) is a chronic pain syndrome with onset in developmental age, characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain associated with other neurological or nonneurological symptoms. Headache is one of the most frequent comorbid conditions with JFM, but this association is still poorly studied in the juvenile population. The literature review was conducted searching through PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science with a combination of the following free-text terms: "fibromyalgia," "juvenile fibromyalgia," "headache," "primary headache," "migraine,&...

This article presents the case of a 46-year-old woman with fibromyalgia with an undetected fracture of the coccyx. The heterogeneity of the symptoms of patients suffering from fibromyalgia including chronic widespread pain, vegetative and functional disorders, mental and physical exhaustion as well as sleep disorders can cause accidentally undetected comorbidities, especially if these are rare and predominantly present with pain as the main symptom. In the present case the reason for symptoms was detected only after 14 months of ineffective therapies and diagnostic procedures. The coccygeal pain was eliminat...

(Natural News) Patients with fibromyalgia might find relief by eating more foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Studies show that the inflammation-fighting and immune system-boosting properties of the good fatty acids alleviate the symptoms of the disease. Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that inflicts unrelenting depression, fatigue, and pain in the form of tender points on the muscles. The result is absolute...

AbstractThe American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2016 criteria for fibromyalgia (FM) is recommended for use in primary and referral setting. However, neither the ACR 2016 nor its predecessor ACR 2010 criteria have been validated in a referral setting. We hypothesized that the presence of higher comorbidities in the referral care setting may affect the performance of the ACR 2016. All patients referred to a tertiary care hospital with widespread pain for more than 3  months were screened using (1) the ACR 2016 criteria and (2) by a blinded expert physician (using ACR 1990 criteria). Using the ACR 1990 as reference st...

ra SM Abstract Fibromyalgia is a disease characterised as generalised chronic primary pain that causes functional disability and a reduction in patients' quality of life, without specific pathophysiology or appropriate treatment. Previous studies have shown that kinins and their B1 and B2 receptors contribute to chronic painful conditions. Thus, we investigated the involvement of kinins and their B1 and B2 receptors in a fibromyalgia-like pain model induced by reserpine in mice. Nociceptive parameters (mechanical allodynia, cold sensitivity and overt nociception) and behaviours of burrowing, thigmotaxis, and force...

ConclusionsIn chronic pain patients with fibromyalgia, the increase in endogenous pain inhibition by tapentadol was translated into analgesia in patients with a normal CNFS. In those with abnormal CNFS, tapentadol treatment was without analgesic effect.SignificanceIn this double ‐blind randomized placebo‐controlled trial, we showed that tapentadol significantly enhanced the descending pain inhibition in fibromyalgia patients. Tapentadol‐induced pain relief was only present in patients with a normal CNFS.

Conclusion: The results of our study may suggest the presence of FM as a clinical sign of a more severe migraine. However, the long-term prospective studies including these group of patients are needed to understand the prognostic impact and importance of the comorbid FM in migraine.
