Clinical significance of the anterosuperior lymph nodes along the common hepatic artery identified by sentinel node mapping in patients with gastric cancer

Conclusions We found that SN No. 8a seemed to have lymphatic flow not only from the r-GA basin, but also from the l-GA basin or r-GEA basin. When SN No. 8a are detected, we should be careful to perform function-preserving surgery, even in SN-negative cases.

Authors: Nagano N, Suzuki M, Tamura K, Kobayashi S, Kojima Y, Naka G, Iikura M, Izumi S, Takeda Y, Sugiyama H Abstract Chylothorax is the accumulation of lipid pleural effusion. Few reports have described chylothorax caused by gastric cancer. A 45-year-old woman presented with progressive lymphedema and bilateral chylothorax. Although repetitive thoracentesis was performed to relieve her dyspnea, swelling of her axillary lymph nodes became significant. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography demonstrated the accumulation of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose in these nodes, and a lymph node biopsy showed signet ring c...

We examined the risk factors for lymph node metastasis in RGC, especially for tumors located at the greater curvature (G) or non-greater curvature (NG), to determine the appropriate indications of curative surgery.MethodsData from the two high-volume centers of Japan between 1998 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Among the 137 patients enrolled in this study, 34 were classified as the G group and 103 as the NG group. The incidence of lymph node metastasis and its risk factors was evaluated.ResultsLymph node metastasis was observed in 21.2% (29/137), including 38.2% (13/34) in the G group and 15.5% (16/103) in the NG ...

Objective: To define the influence of preoperative immune modulating nutrition (IMN) on postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for gastrointestinal cancer. Background: Although studies have shown that perioperative IMN may reduce postoperative infectious complications, many of these have included patients with benign and malignant disease, and the optimal timing of such an intervention is not clear. Methods: The Embase, Medline, and Cochrane databases were searched from 2000 to 2018, for prospective randomized controlled trials evaluating preoperative oral or enteral IMN in patients undergoing surger...
