Abstract BACKGROUND: Malaria is a common problem throughout the world, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where 90% of all deaths in the world from malaria occur. While many studies on malaria are available in the medical literature, few publications have addressed the problems of managing malaria during surgery and anesthesia. At a newly opened hospital in Niger, we initiated further studies to evaluate our process of managing malaria when we had a number of problems in our first group of pediatric patients having elective cleft lip and palate repairs. Many patients had fevers during and soon after surgery and w...

Ralph Apicomplexan parasites possess a plastid organelle called the apicoplast. Inhibitors that selectively target apicoplast housekeeping functions, including DNA replication and protein translation, are lethal for the parasite, and several (doxycycline, clindamycin, and azithromycin) are in clinical u se as antimalarials. A major limitation of such drugs is that treated parasites only arrest one intraerythrocytic development cycle (approximately ...

One of the key determinants of sexual commitment is the transcription factor PfAP2-G, which has been proposed to orchestrate this crucial cell fate decision by driving expression of gametocyte genes. Here we identif...

This study aimed to examine and compare the relevance between these three kinds of green space and incidences of the three types of epidemic diseases based on the Panel Data Model (PDM) with the time series data of 31 Chinese provinces from 2007 to 2016. The results indicated that there exists different, or even opposite, relevance between various kinds of green space and epidemic diseases, which might be associated with the process of urban sprawl in rapid urbanization in China. This paper provides a reference for re-thinking the indices of green space in building healthier and greener cities.
