Pyoderma gangrenosum and inflammatory bowel disease: A cross-sectional inpatient socioeconomic study

To the Editor: Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a neutrophilic dermatosis that may require hospitalization.1 These ulcers often heal slowly, and comorbid diseases including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), lymphoma, leukemia, and hepatitis complicate management.2 Even minor trauma from surgery can worsen ulcerations (pathergy). When patients are hospitalized, a multidisciplinary team may be enlisted to initiate systemic corticosteroids and/or tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α inhibitors and treat comorbid conditions.
