S-1 Plus Cisplatin versus fluorouracil Plus cisplatin in advanced gastric or gastro-esophageal junction adenocarcinoma patients: a pilot study.

This study was registered on ClinicalTrials. Gov, number NCT01198392. A total of 236 patients were enrolled. Median TTP was 5.51 months in CS group compared with 4.62 months in CF group [hazard ratio (HR) 1.028, 95% confidential interval (CI) 0.758-1.394, p = 0.859]. Median OS was 10.00 months and 10.46 months in CS and CF groups (HR 1.046, 95%CI 0.709-1.543, p = 0.820), respectively. The most common adverse events in both groups were anemia, leukopenia, neutropenia, nausea, thrombocytopenia, vomiting, anorexia and diarrhea. We find that S-1 plus cisplatin is an effective and tolerable option for advanced gastric or gastro-esophageal junction adenocarcinoma patients in China. However, the clinical applications of ROS-mediated cancer therapies still have many limitations, such as self-defects of traditional photosensitizer, adverse tumor microenvironment (TME), and insufficient ROS production. Here, two-dimensional and highly oxidized ilmenite nanosheets (HOIL NSs, for...

This article presents her outstanding character and most important lines of research. The focus of her studies covered alkylative and oxidative damage to DNA bases, in particular mutagenic and carcinogenic properties of purines with an open imidazole ring and 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine (8-oxoGua). They also included analysis of mutagenic properties and pathways for the repair of DNA adducts of lipid peroxidation (LPO) products arising in large quantities during inflammation. Professor Tudek did all of this in the hope of deciphering the mechanisms of DNA damage removal, in particular by the base excision repair (BER) pathway...

Authors: Gok M, Sozuer E, Topal U, Akyuz M, Bozkurt GK, Hamurcu M, Deniz K Abstract Appendix vermiformis agenesis is quite rare. It is seen in 1/100,000 of patients who underwent laparotomy with an initial diagnosis of appendicitis. A 72-year-old woman who had not undergone any previous surgery was operated on for mechanical intestinal obstruction. Right hemicolectomy was performed due to obstructive tumoral mass in the hepatic flexure. There was no appendix vermiformis in exploration. Before deciding on the diagnosis of appendix agenesis, a thorough and rigorous exploration should be performed in ileocecal region ...

Conclusions Preoperative serum TC level is an independent poor prognostic factor for patients with surgically treated RCC, with lower levels associated with worse CSS and PFS. Hence, this parameter may provide additional guidance in the selection of therapeutic strategies to improve prognosis, considering that cholesterol is a broadly applied routine marker in clinical practice.

Conclusions This review highlights the breadth of strategies that aim to preserve a patient ’ s bladder while still optimizing local tumor control and overall survival. Future areas for innovation include the use of predictive biomarkers and implementation of immunotherapy, moving the field towards patient-tailored care.
