Routine use of laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer still to be established

(University of Sydney) A comparison of the surgical removal of rectal tumors by a laparoscopically assisted procedure and open surgery reveals that the case for routine use of laparoscopic procedures has not yet been established, according to a randomized control-trial study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
