Diethylene glycol-containing chiral γPNA (miniPEG-γPNA) is considered to be the best PNA derivative and one of the best candidates for gene detection, because it can hybridize DNA with greater affinity and sequence selectivity th...

Authors: Ishimaru N, Kanzawa Y, Seto H, Kinami S Abstract We herein report a patient with syphilitic cervicitis and cervical cancer presenting as oropharyngeal syphilis. A 31-year-old Japanese woman with a history of unprotected vaginal and oral sex visited our hospital with right submandibular adenomas and erythema in the extremities. The fornix uteri was red, with a nodule noted. The rapid plasma reagin ratio was 1:3. She was diagnosed with syphilitic cervicitis and treated with amoxicillin for four weeks. Initial cervical cytology showed cells with mild nuclear enlargement, which was thought to be metaplasia ass...

Conclusions The scheduled administration of secondary prophylactic Peg G prolonged the progression-free survival in patients treated with mFFX. The combination therapy of Peg G and mFFX may be recommended in patients who exhibit grade 3-4 neutropenic events after prior mFFX cycles. PMID: 30996164 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Because each sport has its own set of characteristics and physiological complications that tend to appear during exercise training, the effects and underlying mechanisms of exercise remain unclear. Thus, the first step in probing exercise effects on different diseases is the s...

ConclusionsThe results of the present study demonstrated, a statistically positive correlation of EGFR and CXCR1 expression in PTC compared to normal thyroid tissues and nodular hyperplasia in Qassim Region- Saudi Arabia. Concomitant high expression of both receptors were strongly correlated with LNM, DM, TNM stage and tumor relapse than did each alone. These findings suggest that EGFR and CXCR1 play crucial roles in PTC and serve as predictors of poor prognosis, biomarkers of tumor diagnosis, and potential targets of cancer therapeutics.

Authors: Rezasoltani S, Dabiri H, Asadzadeh-Aghdaei H, Sepahi AA, Modarressi MH, Nazemalhosseini-Mojarad E Abstract Gut microbiota is the complex community of microorganisms that live in the digestive tracts of humans and other animals, including insects. The relationship between gut microbiota and human health is mutualistic and altered bacterial compositions in fecal and mucosal specimens of colon in patients with cancer compared to healthy subjects were observed. Thereby, studying the gut microbiota, their interactions with the host and their alterations in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients could be helpful to di...

Endoscopic eradication therapy (EET) is performed with the central premise that replacing neoplastic Barrett ’s esophagus (BE) with neosquamous epithelium will result in a decreased risk of death of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Although level 1 data demonstrating decreased cancer death after EET are not available, we do have strong evidence that EET can decrease the incidence of EAC,1,2 both in patie nts with BE and low-grade dysplasia (LGD) and in those with BE and high-grade dysplasia (HGD).

We thank Yu-His Hsieh et  al1 for their comments. Historically, the adenoma detection rate (ADR) was proposed as a clinically applicable and measurable quality indicator that was a surrogate for miss rates for adenomas.2 Miss rates are not practical to measure in clinical practice because they require 2 examinations,3 whic h is not an issue with ADR measurement.4 Thus, because the ADR can be readily measured and studied as a variable, it has been validated as a predictor of interval colorectal cancers (CRC).

We present a case of diagnosed xeroderma pigmentosum in a 25 year old male who presented with multiple lesions and non-healing ulcers on face. Four surgical specimens from left lower eyelid, chin, right cheek and upper lip were taken for histopathological diagnosis. Microscopic examination revealed five different tumors from biopsies of these sites - specimen from right cheek revealed two morphologically distinct tumors. The tumors include basosquamous carcinoma, nodular basal cell carcinoma, adenoid basal cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma and cavernous hemangioma. PMID: 30992739 [PubMed]
