We examined recent research on associations of prenatal and early-childhood exposure to the antimicrobial compounds, triclosan, and parabens, with the risk of asthma and eczema in children. We will discuss potential biological mechanisms of this association and highlight strengths and limitations of the study design and exposure assessment of current findings.Recent FindingsResults of available toxicological and epidemiologic studies indicate a potential link of triclosan and paraben exposures with asthma and eczema in children, as well as changes in microbiome diversity and immune dysfunction, which could possibly mediate...

JärvinenAbstractBreastfeeding is currently recommended as the optimal source of nutrition to infants. However, there are several studies that have shown clinical IgE and non-IgE-mediated reactions to foods in exclusively breastfeeding infants, specifically to cow’s milk, egg, peanut, and fish. EXCLUSIVE: Felix Bright, now one, from Derby, used to scratch the painful eczema on his stomach, ankles and knees until they bled. His mother said he looked as though he had suffered severe burns.
CONCLUSION: Eczema phenotypes are very modestly associated with more somatic symptoms and attention problems at school age. Early transient eczema is associated with more aggressive behaviour symptoms. Directional effects seem from early life eczema to later life internalizing and externalizing problems rather than reversely. PMID: 31730242 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
This study suggests that a simple risk-assessment tool could potentially be created for emergency rooms in similar settings to identify higher-risk children on whom limited resources might be better focused.
Conclusions The long-term risks of autoimmune disorders are significantly higher in patients with allergic diseases. Allergic diseases and autoimmune disorders show age- and sex-related clustering patterns.
