“Anomalous right pulmonary artery left atrial fistula”: Growth in vain

We report a case of direct communication between the right pulmonary artery and the left atrium; a rare cause of central cyanosis in 10year old boy, emphasizing the role of multislice computed tomography scanner in delineating the complex vascular abnormality over more invasive conventional angiography.

CT angiography offers excellent anatomic detail necessary for vascular procedural planning including endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). However, patients with renal insufficiency are at risk for acute renal failure due to iodinated contrast administration. Catheter-directed CT angiography is a technique in which dilute iodinated contrast is injected into an intra-aortic pigtail catheter during the CT scan. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this technique.

This study compares the effect of Helicobacter (H.) pylori and Lactobacillus (L.) acidophilus on the cytokine profile of PBMCs of 5 men with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and 5 men with normal/insignificant angiography, CT-Scan and ultrasonography results in the single-culture and in the co-culture with HUVECs. IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-9, IL-10, IL-13, IL-17A, IL-17 F, IL-21, IL-22, IFN-γ and TNF-α were measured in culture supernatants using a commercial fluorescent-labeled-bead assay. In general, CagA+ H. pylori-extract induced higher production of IFN-γ, IL-13 and IL-21 by PBMCs. Treatment of ...

This study demonstrates the feasibility of a fully automated technology for the accurate detection and identification of several anatomical reference points (landmarks), commonly used in intravascular imaging. This technology uses two different approaches, specially designed for the detection of aortic root and supra-aortic and visceral branches. In order to adjust the parameters of the developed algorithms, a total of 33 computed tomography scans with different types of pathologies were selected. Furthermore, a total of 30 independently selected computed tomography scans were used to assess their performance. Accuracy was...

ConclusionThe vessel-specific MCP myocardial perfusion territory assignment technique more accurately quantifies LCA and RCA perfusion territories as compared with the current standard AHA 17-segment model. Therefore, it can potentially provide a more comprehensive and patient-specific evaluation of coronary artery disease.Key Points• The minimum cost path (MCP) technique accurately determines left and right coronary artery perfusion territories, as compared with the American Heart Association 17-segment (AHA) model.• The minimum cost path (MCP) technique could be applied to cardiac computed-tomography angiograph...

Authors: Al-Rudaini HEA, Han P, Liang H Abstract BACKGROUND: CT Angiography (CTA) of aortoiliac and lower extremity arteries is a relatively recent innovation of CT imaging that has changed after the introduction of multi-detector row scanners. OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of Multidetector Computed Tomographic Angiography (MDCTA) in the assessment of arterial tree in patients with Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease (PAOD), as compared to Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA). METHODS: A single-center nonrandomized prospective study was conducted on 50 patients complainin...

Authors: Z S, J F, R K, F K, S K, A T, S R Abstract Introduction: Diabetes mellitus has assumed the status of an epidemic in the last century. High prevalence of diabetes in South Asian population and presence of other cardiovascular risk factors in this region, make up the relationship between coronary artery disease (CAD) and diabetes more pronounced. Keeping in view the high susceptibility of diabetic patients for CAD, these patients are recognized as a high risk group .Emphasis has been laid on the early recognition of CAD, even in silent or asymptomatic state. Coronary artery calcium scoring (CACS), owing to i...

ConclusionsSuccess of these developments should lead to the following benefits: (1) eliminate unnecessary invasive coronary angiography in patients with no significant lesions, (2) avoid stenting physiologically insignificant lesions, (3) guide percutaneous coronary interventions process to the location of significant lesions, (4) provide a flow-color-coded 3D roadmap of the entire coronary tree to guide bypass surgery, and (5) use less radiation and lower the cost from unnecessary procedures.Trial registryThe DEMYSTIFY study has been registered on ClinicalTrials.gov with registration number NCT04221594.
