OMERACT Filter Evidence Supporting the Measurement of At-work Productivity Loss as an Outcome Measure in Rheumatology Research.

CONCLUSION: Our current recommendations for at-work productivity loss measures are: WALS (Workplace Activity Limitations Scale), WLQ PDmod (Work Limitations Questionnaire with modified physical demands scale), WAI (Work Ability Index), WPS (Arthritis-specific Work Productivity Survey), and WPAI (Work Productivity and Activity Impairment Questionnaire). Our future research focus will shift to confirming core contextual factors to consider in the measurement of worker productivity. PMID: 26329339 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Román GC, Jackson RE, Reis J, Román AN, Toledo JB, Toledo E Abstract Observational epidemiological studies provide valuable information regarding naturally occurring protective factors observed in populations with very low prevalences of vascular disease. Between 1935 and 1965, the Italian-American inhabitants of Roseto (Pennsylvania, USA) observed a traditional Italian diet and maintained half the mortality rates from myocardial infarction compared with neighboring cities. In the Seven Countries Study, during 40years (1960-2000) Crete maintained the lowest overall mortality rates and coronar...

Abstract OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in improving pain and physical function following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). DESIGN: Two-group, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial, conducted between September 2012 and May 2017. SETTING: Single centre study conducted at a University-affiliated, tertiary hospital. INTERVENTION: People with arthritis scheduled for TJA, with a well-being score

AbstractObjectivesCXC ligand 13 (CXCL13) is known as B cell chemotactic factor (BLC), promoting the migration of B lymphocytes by communicating with its receptor CXCR5, which can be regarded as part of pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This meta-analysis was to evaluate the circulating CXCL13 levels in SLE and RA.MethodsAll articles were respectively gathered from PubMed, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) (by the end of 10 April 2019). According to random effects model, standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of CXC...

Conclusion: Rheumatologists highly valued patient-reported RA symptoms and physical function to inform their treatment decisions, even above objective data such as physical findings and test results. These results can guide the selection of validated PRO measures to assess these domains to inform the clinical care of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. PMID: 31517249 [PubMed]

This study compared real-world treatment patterns and healthcare costs among biologic-naive patients with PsA initiating apremilast or biologics. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the Optum Clinformatics™ claims database. The study included biologic-naive patients with PsA who initiated treatment with apremilast or a biologic between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2015. Propensity score matching was used to adjust for selection bias. Treatment persistence/adherence and all-cause healthcare costs were evaluated. Cost differences were determined using Wilcoxon rank-sum tests. Results: In all,...

In this report, we describe a case of PCM in a liver transplant recipient 19 months after transplantation. The patient presented with multiple skin abscesses, arthritis, osteolytic lesions, and pulmonary and adrenal involvement. Despite the presence of disseminated disease and the patient's immunosuppressed condition, the patient responded well to prolonged antifungal treatment with no sequelae, thus suggesting that early diagnosis and correct treatment may lead to favorable outcomes in SOT recipients with PCM. Publication date: Available online 12 September 2019Source: Joint Bone SpineAuthor(s): Thomas El Jammal, Mathieu Gerfaud-Valentin, Pascal Sève, Yvan JamillouxAbstractThree Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, ruxolitinib, tofacitinib, and baricitinib, are currently approved by the FDA/EMA for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ulcerative rectocolitis. The inhibition of JAK/STAT signaling by these small molecules, downstream of several cytokine receptors, results in lower pro-inflammatory gene expression. Given the cytokine profiles observed in rheumatologic diseases, most of the recent therape...
