H‐type hypertension, stroke and diabetes in China: Opportunities for primary prevention

Abstract In summary, the CSPPT, with its large sample size and unique study design has provided a definitive answer regarding the role of folic acid supplementation in conjunction with anti‐hypertension therapy in the primary prevention of stroke. Further studies are needed to examine the joint effect of anti‐hypertensive treatment and folic acid supplementation on the development or progression of T2DM as well as vascular complications, particularly in populations without folic acid fortification. If these relationships can be established and underlying mechanisms elucidated, the implications for clinical and public health practice would be enormous.
