Hi everyone I am a 56 yearold female and I was just diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. I am very scared. The doctor is doing gene testing on me to see how severe I have it and they did a bronchoscopy and biopsied that. The biopsy showed a bacteria in my lung so they re trying to find which bacteria it is. In the meantime I am on pulmazyme neubulizer treatment. My whle body hurts Im coughing my chest feels tight I am always tired. If there is anyone out there could you tell me your story being diagnosed as an adult and how you are coping. because Im so angry that I have this.

Smoke-measuring smart shirts, breath sound analyzing algorithms, and smart inhalers pave the way of pulmonology and respiratory care into the future. As the number of patients suffering from asthma, COPD, or lung cancer due to rising air pollution and steady smoker-levels will unfortunately not decrease any time soon, we looked around what technology can do to help both patients and caregivers. The results are breathtaking. Attacks of breathlessness are too common The diseases which pulmonologists and respiratory care specialists attempt to fight are among the most common conditions in the modern world – and t...

This report highlights the usefulness of bronchoscopy in case of recurrent pneumonia with the same localization even in CF patients where the presence of bronchiectasis as promoting factor of infections could delay the diagnosis. Bronchoscopy is used in the management of cystic fibrosis (CF) for multiple reasons, of which sampling respiratory secretions has been the most frequent. The evidence behind the role of bronchoscopy for routine sampling of respiratory secretions to determine clinical management is lacking, although there remain well-accepted indications for bronchoscopy in research and follow-up of advanced therapies in the CF population. We review the clinical and research utility of bronchoscopy in patients with CF and outline promising research uses of this tool that can contribute to recent advances in understanding and treating CF.

Goss, Dan Benscoter, John P. Clancy, Pradeep K. SinghSummaryCulture and sequencing have produced divergent hypotheses about cystic fibrosis (CF) lung infections. Culturing suggests that CF lungs are uninfected before colonization by a limited group of CF pathogens. Sequencing suggests diverse communities of mostly oral bacteria inhabit lungs early on and diversity decreases as disease progresses. We studied the lung microbiota of CF ...

Authors: Skoczyński S, Minarowski Ł, Tobiczyk E, Oraczewska A, Glinka K, Ficek K, Mróz R, Barczyk A Abstract Respiratory failure is one of the most important risk factors for diagnostic bronchofiberoscopy (BF), whereas therapeutic bronchoscopies are typically performed in intubated patients. Only a few published studies analyzed the outcomes of noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV)-facilitated BF. In this case series, we present our experiences with NIV-facilitated diagnostic and therapeutic BF performed in patients with respiratory failure that was associated with acute interstitial pulmonary disease, ...

Authors: Abdallah M, Abdallah HA, Memish ZA Abstract Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc) is a Gram-negative bacterium commonly found in moist environments and soil. Bcc species are associated with many outbreaks in intensive care units (ICUs). In this review, we describe the sources of Bcc outbreaks among non-cystic fibrosis (CF) patients in various ICUs that include neonatal intensive care units, pediatric intensive care units and adult ICUs. Also we summarize the risk factors and outcome predictors of Bcc infection or colonization in non-CF critically ill patients. Finally, we describe the infection control measur...

Conclusion: As for cardiac or hepatic transplantations, despite a strong immunosuppressive regimen, a high frequency of transient PF4/H Ab is observed in patients undergoing BLT. Their appareance is not related to thrombocytopenia and/or thrombotic events. However, they could be an early marker of a cellular reaction againts the graft.DisclosuresNo relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Conclusions: BiPAP is well tolerated by pediatric CF patients at CF Center Lund and is often successful in case of atelectasis or severe mucus plugging combined with other treatments. Combining methods, such as BiPAP and bronchoscopy, can be essential in treatment of these complications in cystic fibrosis..

Conclusions: FB was performed in almost one third of children and adolescents with CF. Exacerbations’ evaluation and eradication treatment surveillance were the most frequent reasons for bronchoscopic evaluation. No adverse events were encountred.
