The lipid raft proteome of Borrelia burgdorferi

This study provides the first analysis of a prokaryotic lipid raft and has relevance for the biology of Borrelia, other pathogenic bacteria, as well as for the evolution of these structures. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved

ConclusionsMore macrovascular and microvascular complications were found in Northern compared to Southern patients, and the largest difference also appeared in the younger age groups under 55, which may be meaningful to a screening and treatment strategy according to geographic differences.

AbstractLipocalin ‐2 (LCN2) is a secreted glycoprotein involved in several chronic inflammatory processes. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and adult growth hormone deficiency (GHD) are known as chronic inflammatory conditions. The primary objective of this observational cross‐sectional study was to compare LCN2 plasmat ic levels in these clinical settings, whereas the secondary objective was to investigate any possible correlation between LCN2 and BMI and/or indexes of insulin sensitivity/resistance. Seventy‐four patients were divided as follows: Group A, MetS (18 patients, 13 females and 5 males, mean ±&thin...

This study aimed to determine the temporal profile of metabolic responses of the liver to cold exposure and changes of the hepatic NAD+/SIRT system. Eight ‐week‐old male C57BL/6 mice were individually housed in conventional cages under cold exposure (4°C) for up to five days. Cold exposure decreased the hepatic triglyceride level and cholesterol level in mice by 1.7‐ and 1.6‐fold, respectively. Lipogenic gene expression was persistently reduc ed, while gluconeogenic gene expression was transiently increased. Hepatic NAD+/SIRT metabolism was induced during the "cold remodeling" phase (days 1 ‐3) and ...

ABSTRACTSeveral epidemiological studies have reported a relationship between statin treatment and increased bone mineral density (BMD) and reduced fracture risk, but the mechanism underlying the purported relationship is unclear. We used Mendelian randomization (MR) to assess whether this relationship is explained by a specific effect in response to statin use or by a general effect of lipid lowering. We utilized 400 single ‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) robustly associated with plasma lipid levels as exposure. The outcome results were obtained from a heel estimated BMD (eBMD) genomewide association study (GWAS) from t...

Conclusions: The findings of this study indicated that non-HDL-C/HDL-C plays an important role in the risk and progression of CAD. These findings need verification by further large-scale prospective studies. PMID: 32219140 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

(American College of Cardiology) The investigational drug evinacumab reduced low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol to near-normal levels among patients with a rare cholesterol disorder, meeting the primary endpoint in the first randomized placebo-controlled trial of the drug, which is being presented at the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session Together with World Congress of Cardiology (ACC.20/WCC).
