Authors: Kim J, Lee K, Lee W Abstract Eosinophilic esophagitis is a rare disease in Asian countries, but its incidence is growing rapidly in Western countries. The main pathophysiology of eosinophilic esophagitis is esophageal epithelial barrier dysfunction; disruption of the esophageal epithelial barrier easily induces antigen sensitization to foods and aeroallergens, which leads to subsequent esophageal inflammation as a result of eosinophil recruitment. Here we report a case of an 11-year-old Korean boy who suffered from fever, odynophagia, dysphagia, and chest pain. His upper endoscopic findings showed longitud...

In this disease, autoantibodies serve as a diag...

CONCLUSIONS: Although ZIKV was not confirmed to cause the congenital malformations, this study demonstrated that the clinical and epidemiological findings associated with a STORCH exclusion strengthened the CZS diagnosis. The suspected cases in MT occurred simultaneously with the first CZS cases reported in Brazil, suggesting ZIKV circulation in the study region during the same period.

In this study, we show the ability of U94 to exert its anticancer activity on three different TNBC cell lines by inhibiting DNA damage repair genes, cell cycle and eventually leading to cell death following activation of the intrinsic apoptotic pathway. Interestingly, we found that U94 acted synergistically with DNA-damaging drugs. Overall, we provide evidence that U94 is able to combat tumor cells with different mechanisms, thus attesting for the great potential of this molecule as a multi-target drug in cancer therapy.

(Oregon Health&Science University) A promising vaccine that clears an HIV-like virus from monkeys is closer to human testing after a new, weakened version of the vaccine has been shown to provide similar protection as its original version. The vaccine -- which uses a form of the common herpes virus cytomegalovirus, or CMV -- was live-attenuated, or weakened so CMV couldn't spread as easily. Having an attenuated version of the vaccine is key to being potentially able to use it in humans.

We describe demographic characteristics, sexual behaviors, and self-reported STD diagnoses of sexually active women and men, separately, by whether they had ever engaged in injection-related behaviors (age 15–44; N = 9006 women, N = 7210 men). Results indicate that in 2011–15, 1.4% of women and 2.6% of men reported ever engaging in injection-related behaviors. Examining the full logistic regression models indicate that for women, sex with a PWID in the past 12 months (AOR = 5.8, 95% CI: 2.9, 11.7), exchanging money/drugs for sex in the past 12 months (AOR = 3.6, 95% CI: 1.2, 10.9), chlamydia...

We described a 9-month boy who was admitted to our hospital because of severe pneumonia and developed DRESS 3 weeks later. In addition, we performed a literature review of diabetes mellitus associated with DRESS by searching the PubMed. A total of 16 articles and 27 related case reports were obtained between 2001 and 2018. The mean age was 46yr. The duration from the onset of DRESS to the development of DM was 21d on average. 21 patients were diagnosed F1TD, 5 patients were confirmed T1DM, and 1 patient was defined T2DM. GAD were detected in 4 cases. Of 22 cases in which virus examination were carried out, evidence of viru...
