Swollen and Ulcerated Maxillary Gingivae
A 73 year-old female was referred for evaluation of gingival lesions affecting the left maxillary quadrant. She was unsuccessfully treated with chlorhexidine mouthwash, prednisone oral rinse and penicillin. The patient had a medical history significant for hypothyroidism, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and osteoporosis, appropriately managed with medications. Her surgical history was significant for left parotidectomy (low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma), thyroidectomy (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and papillary carcinoma) and tonsillectomy.
