Head Transplantation in Mouse Model.
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study support the feasibility of this method for avoiding brain ischemia during transplantation, thereby allowing for the possibility of long-term studies of head transplantation. PMID: 26096690 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Current ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) protocols aim to achieve perfusion flows of 40% of cardiac output or more. We hypothesized that a lower target flow rate during EVLP would improve graft function and decrease inflammation of donation after circulatory death (DCD) lungs.
CONCLUSIONS: ASC sheets prevented cardiac dysfunctions and remodeling after MI in a rat model via VEGF secretion. Inhibition of VEGF effects by carvedilol abolished their beneficial effects. PMID: 31527337 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
We present two cases of circulatory death donor (DCD) hearts recovered using NMP.
This study describes a simple, reproducible, human model that allows for interrogation of flow effects during ex vivo organ perfusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Gonadal veins from deceased human renal allografts were subjected to either static cold storage or hypothermic machine perfusion for up to 24 hours. Caspase-3, Krüppel-like factor 2 expression and electron microscopic analysis were compared between 'flow' and 'no-flow' conditions, with living donor gonadal vein sections serving as negative controls. RESULTS: The increase in caspase-3 expression was less pronounced for hypothermic machine-perfused veins ...
We examined these outcomes in a large cohort, single center experience of clinical EVLP cases.
Purpose of review It has been increasingly common to use adipose tissue for regenerative and reconstructive purposes. Applications of autologous fat transfer and different stem cell therapies have significant limitations and adipose tissue engineering may have the potential to be an important strategy in the reconstruction of large tissue defects. A better understanding of adipogenesis will help to develop strategies to make adipose tissue more effective for repairing volumetric defects. Recent findings We provide an overview of the current applications of adipose tissue transfer and cellular therapy methods for soft ...
ConclusionWe found multiple heterogeneous predictors for SL with a common denominator related to surgical management of the retroperitoneal space, peritoneum and the ureter. Future prospective studies are necessary to evaluate the influence of these variables on the development of SL.
We report a case of an intracranial hemorrhage first suspected during a trans-cranial Doppler assessment of a postorthotopic liver transplant patient. The patient was at considerable risk of bleeding, due to a primary graft nonfunction, but he had also elevated ammonium levels, justifying the comatose state, and no focal neurological deficits.
We describe a novel circuit which allows safe and easy switch between modalities without prolonged interruption of flow. This circuit offers a safety net during surgery to minimise the risks influencing the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. PMID: 31480930 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
