Minimal invasive mitral valve surgery does make a difference: Should it be the gold standard for mitral valve repair?

Mitral valve regurgitation is associated with significant long-term morbidities including the development of atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and shortened life expectancy. Mitral valve repair improves long-term outcome in patients with mitral regurgitation [1]. Open chest procedures remain the gold standard for mitral repair and remain the context from which to compare durability and outcomes.
