Organochlorine Compounds and Ultrasound Measurements of Fetal Growth in the INMA Cohort (Spain)

Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first study to report an association between prenatal exposure to some PCBs and HCB and fetal growth: AC during the first two trimesters of pregnancy, and BPD and FL later in pregnancy. CONCLUSIONS: TR-HIFU therapy for posterior DIE is feasible. It could be an interesting minimally invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of rectosigmoid endometriosis if its efficacy and safety is confirmed. This article is protected by copyright. Authors: Elias KM, Berkowitz RS, Horowitz NS Abstract Gestational trophoblastic disease refers to a series of interrelated tumors arising from the placenta, including benign molar pregnancies as well as the malignant conditions termed gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). GTN most commonly follows a molar pregnancy but may develop after any gestation. The wide availability of first trimester ultrasound and serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) measurement has changed the presentation of molar pregnancy in recent decades from a second trimester to a first trimester disease, such that most patients have few s...

In this study, we aimed to identify and determine the efficacy of serum biomarkers for the prompt diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. For this purpose, the serum concentrations of progesterone, β human chorionic gonadotropin (β‑hCG) and cancer antigen‑125 (CA125) were detected by solid‑phase, competitive binding chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassays. Flow cytometry was used to analyze the percentage of CD3+ T cells in women with ectopic pregnancy. Pathological analysis of tubal and villus tissues was performed by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. After receiving an injection of methotrexate (MTX), patie...

ConclusionCurettage for miscarriage or undesired pregnancy is not exempt from complications, such as hemorrhage, simple perforation, and infection. Intrauterine fallopian tube incarceration is uncommon but can affect fertility. This diagnosis is important to avoid destruction of the fimbriae and necrosis of the tube and also to reduce the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer are common conditions and may be identified during pregnancy. The comprehensive evaluation of thyroid nodules during pregnancy includes a medical history, physical examination, ultrasound assessment, and (when indicated) an ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy. Most thyroid cancers detected during pregnancy will not grow nor pose significant risk during gestation, and thyroid surgery in pregnant women poses higher risks than in nonpregnant women. Through a balanced and informed approach to the clinical care of this unique population, outcomes can be optimized for both the mother and the fetus.

Abstract Diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) requires a multifaceted approach that includes clinical assessment, evaluation of pre-test probability, and objective diagnostic testing. Common symptoms and signs of DVT are pain, swelling, erythema and dilated veins in the affected limb. The pre-test probability of DVT can be assessed using a clinical decision rule that stratifies DVT into "unlikely" or "likely". If DVT is "unlikely", refer for D-dimer test. If the D-dimer level is normal, DVT can be excluded; if the D-dimer level is increased, refer for compression ultrasound. If DVT...

Abstract JM is a 32-year-old primagravida with polycystic ovary disease. She had extreme difficulty conceiving and was started on clomiphene 6 months ago by her fertility specialist. After doubling the dose on the sixth cycle, she successfully became pregnant. On her second prenatal visit at 12 weeks gestation, an ovarian cyst was detected. Ultrasound showed a complex ovarian mass with nodules on the bowel and abdominal wall. There was mild-to-moderate peritoneal fluid. Cytology showed adenocarcinoma of ovarian origin. Further workup demonstrated advanced stage III epithelial ovarian cancer. JM was referred to GYN...

Introduction The incidence of breast cancer is the first in female malignant tumors, in which the highest incidence of breast cancer has been reported in Europe and the United States, however, in recent years, the incidence of breast cancer in China has annually increased (1, 2). Based on surgery as an important step in the treatment of breast cancer, in recent years, different individuals have never stopped exploration of a novel and optimum approach.
