Pre-procedural Elevated White Blood Cell Count and Neutrophil-Lymphocyte (N/L) Ratio are Predictors of Ventricular Arrhythmias During Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

Pre-procedural Elevated White Blood Cell Count and Neutrophil-Lymphocyte (N/L) Ratio are Predictors of Ventricular Arrhythmias During Percutaneous Coronary Intervention. Cardiovasc Hematol Disord Drug Targets. 2011 Oct 26; Authors: Chatterjee S, Chandra P, Guha G, Kalra V, Chakraborty A, Frankel R Abstract Aims: The absolute white blood cell (WBC) count and neutrophil to lymphocyte (N/L) ratio are predictors of death/myocardial infarction in patients who have undergone coronary angiography. We hypothesized that a pre-procedural elevated WBC count and an elevated N/L ratio would be a predictor of development of significant ventricular arrhythmias in subjects undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods and Results-We retrieved the data for all patients developing ventricular arrhythmia during PCI between 1999 to 2009 from our cath lab database (from 30,798 records), a total of 70 patients (Group I), and tabulated their WBC counts and absolute neutrophil and lymphocyte counts as well as N/L ratios. We compared the data with a random group of age, gender, medications and pre-existing condition matched controls (n=70) (Group II). We also adjusted for amount of myocardium under jeopardy. Group I had a significantly higher total WBC count (means 14,344 Vs 6852; 95% CI; p=0.0004); neutrophil count (means 75.79% Vs 58.06%; 95% CI; p

AbstractAimsThe aim of this study was to determine the incidence, predictors, and short ‐term and long‐term outcomes associated with in‐hospital sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) collectively termed ventricular arrhythmia (VA) in the heart failure (HF) patients. Methods and resultsThe HEart function Assessment Registry Trial in Saudi Arabia (HEARTS registry) is a prospective national registry of patients with chronic HF from18 tertiary care hospitals across Saudi Arabia. Diagnosis of HF was in accordance with American Heart Association/European Society of Cardiology definition cr...

CONCLUSIONS: RDN reduced the incidence of PVC, inhibited prolongation of the QTc interval, and reduced VA in the early period following an AMI. These results suggest that RDN might be a therapeutic option in patients with electrical instability after AMI. PMID: 31642212 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

We report the case of a 65-year-old man brought in by ambulance who complained of chest pain and received an out-of-hospital ECG suggestive of anterior-wall ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. Shortly after arrival, the patient became unresponsive, with no palpable pulse, and was found to be in ventricular fibrillation. The patient’s ventricular fibrillation persisted despite repeated attempts at standard and double sequential defibrillation, multiple rounds of epinephrine, and amiodarone, magnesium, and bicarbonate. After these interventions were exhausted, a stellate ganglion blockade was conducted after an...

Conclusion  Inhibition of SK channels was neither beneficial nor detrimental to ventricular arrhythmia development in the setting of AMI in this porcine model.

ConclusionsThe incidence of arrhythmia and shock in patients with TTC does not correlate with the extent of myocardium involvement. The presence of LBBB in such cases can help recognize at-risk populations, and with timely intervention, life-threatening complications can be avoided. Despite limitations of the dataset and inability to establish causality, prospective studies with longer follow-up are warranted.

AbstractBackgroundSympathetic neural activation plays a key role in the incidence and maintenance of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) induced ventricular arrhythmia (VA). Furthermore, previous studies showed that AMI might induce microglia and sympathetic activation and that microglial activation might contribute to sympathetic activation. Recently, studies showed that light emitting diode (LED) therapy might attenuate microglial activation. Therefore, we hypothesized that LED therapy might reduce AMI ‐induced VA by attenuating microglia and sympathetic activation.MethodsThirty anesthetized rats were randomly divided in...

Conclusions: Embolism associated with asymptomatic carotid stenosis shows circadian variation with highest rates 4–6 h before midday. This corresponds with peak circadian incidence of stroke and other vascular complications. These and ASED Study results show that monitoring frequency, duration, and time of day are important in ES detection. Introduction Transcranial Doppler (TCD) detected microembolism in the ipsilateral middle cerebral artery (MCA) may help stratify the risk of stroke and other arterial disease complications in persons with advanced (≥60%) asymptomatic carotid stenosis. If so, this techniqu...
