No difference between citalopram plus naltrexone, naltrexone alone for depression with alcohol use

Adding the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) citalopram to naltrexone and clinical case management for patients with co‐occurring major depression and alcohol dependence did not result in significant improvement over placebo in a study of 138 adults. Both the citalopram and placebo groups experienced substantial improvements in mood and drinking outcomes in the 12‐week study.
