Relationship Between Parenteral Energy/Amino Acids And Clinical Outcomes In Long-Term Fasting Icu Patients: A Retrospective Cohort Study Using Japanese Medical Claims Database

Rationale: Some critically ill patients cannot avoid depending on parenteral nutrition because they cannot receive enteral nutrition due to gastrointestinal dysfunctions or unstable cardiovascular dynamics. The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between prescribed parenteral energy/amino acids and clinical outcomes during 4th to 7th day after ICU admission in the fasting (i.e., not take food orally or receive enteral nutrition (EN) during the period exceeding 7 days after ICU admission) and mechanically ventilated ICU patients.
