Abstract BACKGROUND: The impact of institutional case volume to graft failure rate after adult kidney transplantation is relatively unclear compared to other solid organ transplantations. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of 13,872 adult kidney transplantations in Korea was performed. Institutions were divided into low- ( 60 cases/year) volume centers depending on the annual case volume. One-year graft failure rate was defined as the proportion of patients who required dialysis or re-transplantation at one year after transplantation. Postoperative in-hospital mortality and long-term graft survival were al...

Objective: To explore putative different impacts of delayed graft function (DGF) on long-term graft survival in kidneys donated after brain death (DBD) and circulatory death (DCD). Background: Despite a 3-fold higher incidence of DGF in DCD grafts, large studies show equivalent long-term graft survival for DBD and DCD grafts. This observation implies a differential impact of DGF on DBD and DCD graft survival. The contrasting impact is remarkable and yet unexplained. Methods: The impact of DGF on DBD and DCD graft survival was evaluated in 6635 kidney transplants performed in The Netherlands. DGF severity and functi...

Conclusions: Our data demonstrate that RTCA is feasible and clinically meaningful. The RTCA score predicts DGF and is a valid option to be applied in renal transplantation.

Conclusions: Recipients of experimental HCV D+/R- transplants generally seemed to recognize the risks and benefits of these novel transplants and did not regret participating. Such salutary reported experiences are important in assessing the appropriateness of further research into the feasibility of HCV D+/R- transplants. PMID: 31618112 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Lipofuscin deposition is a characteristic manifestation of aging. There is very limited literature in humans and in animals describing these deposits in native kidneys. Overall, it is thought to be non-pathoge...

Increased tuberculosis (TB) disease risk has consistently been observed among solid organ transplant recipients [1, 2]. This may result from post-transplant immunosuppressive therapy, although underlying disease processes leading to transplant (including chronic kidney disease) are also associated with increased risk [3]. TB among transplant recipients is associated with increased risk of drug toxicity, drug–drug interactions, graft failure and mortality [4], and can lead to transmission to other vulnerable hospitalised patients. Consequently, global guidelines recommend systematic screening of patients undergoing so...

Abstract BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: An increasing number of patients on the waitlist for a kidney transplant indicates a need to effectively utilize as many deceased donor kidneys as possible while ensuring acceptable outcomes. Assessing regional and center-level organ utilization with regards to discard can reveal regional variation in suboptimal deceased donor kidney acceptance patterns stemming from perceptions of risk. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, &MEASUREMENTS: We created a weighted donor utilization index from a logistic regression model using high-risk donor characteristics and discard rates from...

In this study, ASC shee ts were directly transplanted into the kidneys of a DN rat model, and therapeutic consequences were analyzed.Materials and MethodsASCs were isolated from adipose tissues of 7 ‐week‐old EGFP rats, and ASC sheets were prepared using a temperature‐responsive culture dish. DN rat model was established from 5‐week‐old SDT fatty rats. Seven‐week‐old DN rats (n = 21) were assigned to one of the following groups: sham‐operated (n = 6; sham group); ASC suspension (6.0 × 10⁶ cells/mL) administered intravenously (n = 7; ASC i.v. group); and six ASC sheets transplanted directly into the ...
