Elevated Carcinoembryonic Antigen as Initial Presenting Sign of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma
A 64-year-old gentleman with type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity was evaluated for an elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level to 23 ng/mL. This was obtained during an evaluation after he wished to increase his life insurance policy. He was otherwise asymptomatic and had no specific gastrointestinal (GI)-related complaints.
