National guidance for the management of children in hospital with viral respiratory tract infections, RCPCH (updated 15th November 2022)

This is an update of 2021 National guidance for the management of children with bronchiolitis. Sustaining robust infection prevention and control (IPC) processes during periods of high circulation of viral respiratory tract infections is essential to keep patients, parents/carers and staff safe. It is important to learn from our experience during COVID-19 so that we can maintain services and reduce the risk of transmission when faced with surges of RSV, influenza and other respiratory viruses or further waves of new variants of COVID-19. This includes the application of isolation, segregation, mask wearing and testing for respiratory viruses in the urgent and emergency acute unscheduled care pathway to ensure that we reduce the spread of respiratory viruses within inpatient settings.
