Clinical pathologic conference case: incidental finding on the posterolateral border of the tongue in a 16-year-old female

A 16-year-old female presented for routine dental care. On initial examination, a single, well-defined, sessile, firm exophytic submucosal lesion was detected on the right posterolateral border of the tongue. The lesion presented as a smooth pink dome-shaped nonulcerated mass. It was non-tender to palpation. According to the patient, it had been present for several years (Figure 1 and 2). At the time of presentation, the patient didn't have any fever, fatigue, airway obstruction or lymphadenopathy.
